Quilting of fabrics is a process in which several layers of fabric are placed on top of each other and sewn together by special quilting machines. Usually one of the layers is cotton wool – this will later give volume to the finished product. The other two are usually lining or front fabric, and padding. Stitching the fabrics in layers on top of each other gives them strength, density and thickness and makes them more durable. There are many decorative figures which the fabrics can be quilted with - from straight parallel lines to braids of varying complexity. Quilted fabrics are widely used in the textile industry - for the production of clothes, for lining of outerwear and work clothes, duvets, bed covers, pillows and many others.
